Veeam replication job fails – Failed to create NFC upload stream

I have just created a new replication job in Veeam Backup & Replication 9.5 (update 4) and it failed with the following error:

Processing configuration Error: Cannot get service content.
Soap fault. TimeoutDetail: ‘connect failed in tcp_connect()’, endpoint: ‘https://<myvcenter>:443/sdk’
SOAP connection is not available. Connection ID: [<myvcenter>].
Failed to create NFC upload stream. NFC path: [nfc://conn:<myvcenter>,nfchost:host-2914,stg:datastore-2915@<vmname>_replica_5/<vmname>.vmx].

After a bit of investigation I noticed that there were some firewall rules missing:

  • TCP port 902 was being blocked between the Veeam B&R server and the remote ESX host
  • TCP port 443 was being blocked between the remote Veeam proxy and the vCenter server
