Change the startup order of virtual machines in a vApp

After creating a vApp in the vSphere Web Client it may be necessary to change the order in which the virtual machines start up.  For example, in a Microsoft Exchange vApp it would be logical to start the domain controller before the Exchange servers.

It only takes a few steps to change the startup order:

  1. In the vSphere Web Client right-click on the vApp and select Edit Settings…
  2. Expand Start order
  3. Change the order that virtual machines start and configure actions as required
  4. Click OK

vApp_Start_Order

Note: when powering off a vApp the virtual machines power off from highest to lowest startup order
