Upgrade ESXi 5.0 to 5.1

My home ESXi host is currently running version 5.0 but I want to create a Windows 2012 VM and this isn’t support by version 5.0.  So, it’s time to upgrade to 5.1.  I’ve downloaded the ISO for 5.1 and burned it onto CD.  Here are the steps I took to upgrade the host…

1. Boot from the CD
2. Choose ESXi-5.1.0-799733-standard Installer and press Enter
3. At the welcome screen press Enter to continue
4. Read the license agreement and press F11 to accept
5. Choose the device to use for the installation and press Enter to continue
6. Choose the Upgrade ESXi, preserve VMFS datastore option and press Enter
7. Press F11 to begin the upgrade
8. Press Enter to reboot

I can now create a Windows 2012 VM!
