Upgrade Virtual Hardware

This evening I have been upgrading the virtual hardware on some VMs.  They are running on ESX 5.1 so are currently at version 7:

Upgrading the virtual hardware is a simple process that involves only a few clicks, but the process cannot be reversed (unless you restore the VM from a backup or snapshot!).  Here is how I upgraded the virtual hardware:

1. Power down the Virtual Machine

2. Right-click on the VM and select Upgrade Virtual Machine

3. Click Yes to continue

Confirmation

4. View the summary tab of the virtual machine to confirm that the VM version has increased.

5. Power on the Virtual Machine

Once powered up the VMware Tools should automatically update.
