Add CPU or RAM to a VM while it is powered on
It is possible to add CPU and memory to a virtual machine while it is powered on. This is not enabled by default but if you edit the settings of a VM you can enable Memory Hot Add and CPU Hot Plug.
Note: Before enabling these options ensure that:
- The VM is powered off
- The guest operating system supports CPU and memory hot add functionality
- VMware Tools is installed on the guest operating system
- The VM is using hardware version 7 or later
