Veeam Backup & Replication – exclude SQL databases from application-aware processing

There are some SQL databases in our environment that have log shipping enabled.  When the Veeam backup job runs, with application-aware processing enabled, it truncates the logs which upsets the log shipping.  I have been asked by our DBA if we can exclude these databases from the application-aware processing – and the answer is ‘Yes’!  Here’s how:

  1. Open the Veeam Backup & Replication Console
  2. From the main menu choose Database Exclusions

    Database_Exclusions

  3. Click Add
  4. Enter the details of the database to exclude and click OK

    Add_Database

  5. Click OK

Note: If the Database Exclusions option is not available in the main menu then you must enable it in the registry:

  1. Close the Veeam Backup & Replication Console
  2. Open Registry Editor
  3. Navigate to HKLM\SOFTWARE\Veeam\Veeam Backup and Replication
  4. Add a new DWORD named ‘EnableDBExclusions’

    EnableDBExclusions

  5. Set the value to 1
  6. Close Registry Editor
  7. Open the Veeam Backup & Replication Console
